William Freeman’s journey into jewelry began at a young age. Growing up in Bellingham, Washington, his curiosity was sparked at the Mt Baker Rock and Gem Club, where he learned the art of rock hounding and wire wrapping at just 8 years old. This early fascination with gemstones would later blossom into a full-fledged passion.

Years later, while mountain biking in Southern Spain, a seemingly unrelated experience became a catalyst for his artistic expression. Building a strawbale cabin on a permaculture farm ignited a desire to create and build. This unique studio became the birthplace of his first jewelry collection, "Bici.Arte." These innovative pieces incorporated recycled bicycle parts, showcasing his ingenuity and unconventional approach to jewelry.

An encounter in Guatemala further fueled his artistic fire. During a trip to Lago Atitlan, a chance meeting with a silversmith led to an intensive two-and-a-half-month apprenticeship. Over the next three years, he honed his newfound skills, culminating in the creation of "Kaleidoscope," a piece that propelled him forward.

"Kaleidoscope" caught the attention of Paul Bartnik, a renowned jeweler in Portland, Oregon. Under Bartnik’s tutelage for a year, William delved deeper into the world of fine jewelry, mastering hand engraving, goldsmithing, diamond setting, and wax carving. These refined techniques became the foundation of his signature style.

Today, William calls Rough and Ready, California, his home. His studio serves as his creative haven, where he transforms raw materials into exquisite pieces. Every Saturday, you can find him connecting with the local community at the Nevada City Farmer’s Market. He also actively participates in Juried Art Shows across the Western United States, showcasing his unique craftsmanship to a wider audience.

From a childhood fascination with rocks to an emerging career as an artist, William’s path has been one of continuous learning and exploration. His creative journey, fueled by both inspiration and dedication, has resulted in a distinctive body of work that reflects his passion for artistry and innovation.
